Under the light of the lighthouse Jan Van Speijk lies the old fishing village of Egmond aan Zee. The village is surrounded by beach, sea, sand dunes, ancient forests and tulip fields. It is a wonderful environment for walking and cycling , but Egmond aan Zee also offers various possibilities for shopping especially the night market, terraces, fine dining in one of the many restaurants and a vibrant nightlife. In the surrounding villages there many attractions. For example, there are the ruins of the castle church Egmond aan den Hoef and between the flower fields in Egmond lies the monastery. 7 miles north of Egmond aan Zee is the old artist village of Bergen, in several galleries you can admire their works.The nearby town of Alkmaar is famous for the Cheese Market, held every Friday.
